Elon Musk posted updates about The Boring Company’s plan on Twitter on Friday stating that the company will now prioritize pedestrians and cyclists over people who own their own vehicles.
“Adjusting The Boring Company plan: all tunnels & Hyperloop will prioritize pedestrians & cyclists over cars. Will still transport cars, but only after all personalized mass transit needs are met. It’s a matter of courtesy & fairness. If someone can’t afford a car, they should go first.”
Musk dubbed the transport system as the Urban Loop System which according to him will be a network of parking space-sized stations that would allow passengers to travel from one place to another by an automatic electric bus.
The brain behind Tesla and SpaceX further said that unlike the subway system which is a network of a small number of huge-sized stations, the Urban Loop system will have a large number of single car-sized stations spread out in a city.

He also shared an animated concept video of the project which showed electric buses descending in underground tunnels while carrying passengers. The video is similar to the concept video of the Boring company’s tunneling network shared earlier that featured a Tesla Model S moving on electric skates at high speed.
Speaking of speed, Musk confirmed in a reply to a comment on his post that the electric buses carrying passengers will also move at a very high speed.
“I guess you could say it’s a 150 mph, underground, autonomous, electric bus that automatically switches between tunnels and lifts. So, yes, a bus,” he replied.
Now, this is a massive turn in the original plan that no one saw coming. However, it seems like the plan evolved when Musk and his collaborators discussed the project with urban planners and transit authorities. The plan benefits non-car owning people which will obviously be very appealing to urban planners as it will result in less clogged roads and will discourage the use of personal vehicles.
As promised by Musk, better video of the concept is coming soon so let’s see how this plan goes. Not sure if it will be completed as it is or will have further adjustments.
