Stan Wawrinka just suffered a first round defeat in Rotterdam easing the way for Federer. Roger Federer was playing ATP event in Rotterdam in a bid to become world’s oldest top ranked player. After a dominating win at Australian Open, he announced playing the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam as he was just 155 points short of Nadal as no. 1 ranked player.
Federer just needed to reach the semifinals in order to claim the top rank and become oldest player in history of tennis to become number 1 player. However, there was only obstacle in form of Stan Wawrinka who was expected to meet Federer in Quarter Finals.
But Wawrinka is already out of tournament in a shock first round defeat against world 259 Tallon Griekspoor as the final scores were 4-6 6-3 6-2.

The 32 year old swiss is not having a great start to 2018 as he lost in second round of Australian Open and now lost in first round of ATP event in Rotterdam.
The fifth seeded Stan Wawrinka is struggling after a couple of knee surgeries. He has lost 3 and won 3 since his comeback in 2018. However, he will be looking forward to improve his game as he is one of the best players currently playing.
Wawrinka’s backhand wasn’t the most fluent to his right. with his movements not good enough.
It was a tough day at the office,” Wawrinka said.
“I still need a lot of work to get back.
“There are a lot of ups and downs. Today was not my best day. He played well and went for it.
“He played at a great level and deserved to win. I’ve got to be patient, I knew this would take a long time.”
