M.S Dhoni, the Indian legend, has been awarded with Padma Bhushan on Thursday 25 January, 2018. He became the 11th cricketer to receive this prestigious award. The Padma Bhushan, instituted back in 1954, is given for distinguished service of a high order.

M.S Dhoni has got almost 10,000 runs and played 90 tests for India. He has been the most successful captain in Indian cricket’s history. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 T20 WorldCup, 2011 ODI WorldCup and 2013 Champions Trophy. India also received number 1 Test Team mace under his captaincy.
BCCI’s acting president C.K Khanna said:
“It was a unanimous decision by the members. He has been one of the greatest names in contemporary cricket and the most appropriate choice of the Indian cricket board. He is one of our greatest ODI cricketers with nearly 10,000 runs in ODIs. Not many players have played 90 Test matches. There is no one better than him, who could have been nominated,”.

Dhoni has been on receiving end for various awards in his career. He received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2007, Padma Shri in 2009 and Padma Bhushan in 2018. He also got CNN-IBN Indian of the year in sports in 2011.
ICC also awarded him for his consistent performances over the year. He was part of ICC ODI Team of the year for 8 times (2006, 2008-2014). He also received ICC ODI Player of the year twice in 2008 and 2009.
