Let’s celebrate Mario. It’s March 10 (MAR10) a day dedicated to video gaming’s most famous plumber, Mario. Along with offering different deals and sales, Nintendo added a little more to the celebrations by partnering with Google to add Mario to Google Maps.
Mario will now accompany you on your journey as the “Mario Time” feature is available in the latest update of Google Maps for both iOS and Android, announced Google.
How to activate Mario Time
- Make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps
- Enter your destination, but don’t press start
- Once you have entered your destination in the app, you will notice a yellow question mark icon in the bottom right of the screen. Tap on the icon and you will get a prompt to activate Mario Time
- You’re done. Hit the road
By enabling Mario Time, you will see Mario riding a red go-cart along the journey instead of the normal navigation key.
The good news is Mario will be your companion not only for the Mario Day but for the whole week as announced by Google.
Google also suggests that you should take a screenshot at any point of your route and share it to @GoogleMaps on Instagram and Twitter with the #MarioMaps hashtag.
Happy Mar10 Day!

Though MarioMaps is clearly in accordance with Mario Day, it also seems like it’s linked to the upcoming mobile version of Mario Kart. It might be a fun brand promotion. However, when asked about it, Google said that no money was exchanged in its deal with Nintendo.
Well, this is not the first time Google had brought fun changes to Google Maps. Like, you might remember when Google Maps turned into Pac-Man, or when it allowed Streetview users to explore Doctor Who’s TARDIS or even when the navigation arrow turned into Tie-Fighters from Start Wars along with many more things.
So, the Mario feature is out from today, enjoy your trip with the little guy but remember drivers: don’t look at him for too long, keep your eyes on the road.
