The match ended a 16 match winning streak for Nadal as he looked to win his first Shanghai Masters title. Federer thrashed Nadal in straight sets and won 2nd Shanghai Masters title. The world number 2, Federer, had a rough US open with injury scare, however he returned back to form in Shanghai Masters.
“When somebody plays better than you, sport is not very difficult,” Nadal said after the match. “When you play against somebody that is better than you in most of the things that really matters on this sport in this kind of surface, then it’s tougher. There is room to improve for me, and I’m going to try. But the conditions here were much better for him than for me, being honest.”
However, Roger seems surprised by this win.
“I am actually surprised that I have won here,” said Federer. “With all that has happened since Montreal with my back [which he tweaked in the final there against Alexander Zverev, thus impairing his preparations for the US Open] it is just nice to see that I am back again.
With this win, Federer has now won 5 consecutive matches against Nadal, and 4 in 2017. Federer’s victory means he still has a chance to finish year as number 1 seeded player.

With 1000 points in Paris and 1500 points in London still to play for. However, he may end up skipping Paris tour to get some rest before all important Nitto ATP Finals in London.
“London is my priority now and I really want to win the World Tour Finals. I am very excited to have had the year that I have had and everything that comes from here is a bonus. Finishing the year as world No. 1 is a long shot, and I don’t think it will happen. But if I play like this, who knows? Maybe I will get close again.”
At age of 36, Federer has amazed his audience by winning 2 grand slams, 3 Master titles in the year. While they year started with Federer being out of top 10, even a 2nd spot in ATP rankings is a great achievement. In the process of winning Shanghai Masters, Federer made quite some achievements.
